The Northern Lights may be Seen in New Jersey this Halloween weekend due to a Geomagnetic Storm
According to the Space Weather Prediction Center, Mother Nature may have a special treat in store for us this Halloween weekend. Forecasters anticipate that a geomagnetic storm will make the Northern Lights visible in New Jersey on Saturday night and possibly also on Sunday night.
A strong geomagnetic storm watch is in effect through Saturday, while a moderate geomagnetic storm watch is in effect through Sunday, according to the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center.
A coronal mass ejection from the sun caused the storm on Saturday, which was categorized as a "G3" on the Space Weather Prediction Center's five-point scale. The storm on Sunday was rated as a "G2."
The storm should be powerful enough to make the Northern Lights visible in New Jersey. Viewers would require a break from the forecasted overcast and wet sky, as well as a search for regions with little light pollution.
