Mom in Critical Condition
A mother who attempted to save her two small children from drowning in Brigantine when the lifeguards were off duty is now in "critical condition," according to Brigantine Police Department
According to Brigantine police, the children were evaluated by Brigantine Fire/Rescue before being reunited with their family while the 28-year-old lady was brought to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.
The kids were swimming or wading in the ocean around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday when they were swept away by a current, according to authorities. The mother was seen by a witness diving into the water to save her children, but according to authorities, she grew distressed and submerged.
The witness immediately called 911, police said.
Brigantine Beach Patrol, who were practicing for their shift on a nearby beach, were able to save the children thanks to the mother's unselfish actions and the witness's prompt call for assistance, according to Brigantine police. Brigantine police, Brigantine Fire/Rescue, and Brigantine Beach Patrol all performed life-saving procedures on the mother, according to authorities.
According to Brigantine police, no additional information about this occurrence will be made public.
Lifeguards from Brigantine Beach Patrol are on duty from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the police reminded beachgoers in Brigantine, and they advised swimmers to only swim at guarded beaches and between the flags denoting the swimming area.
