Scientists are Baffled by Green Fireball Streaks Across the Sky of New Jersey and Pennsylvania

Nearly 500 people reported seeing a brilliant green fireball race across the sky.

According to the American Meteor Society, a Taurid fireball was seen in the sky lately by many residents of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, as well as almost 500 other people around the country.

Many observers mistook the brilliant green flame for the launch of the Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Space X Crew Dragon, although the majority of them who observed it were outside the Space X launch region, according to the organization.

American Meteor Society Got Video of the Fireball

The fireball was mostly observed in North Carolina, but witnesses also saw it in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington, DC, Delaware, Georgia, and Maryland, according to the American Meteor Society.

What was it, exactly? No one knows for sure, after all.

"At its brightest, the fireball rivaled the Full Moon, suggesting it was caused by an object roughly 45 pounds (20 kg) in weight and 10 inches (25 cm) in diameter. The low speed could imply an asteroidal origin," American Meteor Society said.
