Should Daylight Saving Time be Abolished in New Jersey?

Don't Forget to "Fall Back" at 2 AM

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, so it's time to turn back the clocks this weekend, but efforts to halt the annual change of the clocks are escalating on a state and national level.

In 2019, New Jersey State Senator Shirley Turner introduced legislation to make Daylight Saving Time permanent by keeping the clocks set to Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) all year. Since then, the bill has been stuck in committee.

"Several studies have proven that the biannual change between EST and EDT is disruptive to commerce, everyday schedules, safety, and health of inhabitants of the country, and thus the residents of this State," Turner claims.

The US Department of Transportation is currently opposed to eliminating Daylight Saving Time, stating that it would result in more traffic accidents. The practice will also serve as a reminder to change the batteries in your smoke alarms, according to fire safety officials.
