Coast Guard rescues 3 mariners from grounded pleasure craft
The Coast Guard rescued three passengers from a stranded boat at the entrance to Little Egg Harbor. On VHF Channel 16, watchkeepers at the Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay command center got word that Phyllis II, a 36-foot pleasure yacht, had run aground.
As an international distress frequency, Channel 16 is utilized. The Coast Guard dispatched a 29-foot response boat from Coast Guard Station Atlantic City to the area, but the boat crew was unable to approach the trapped vessel due to low tide. The boat was five miles northeast of Brigantine when it was discovered.
