New Jersey Schools Limiting Outside Time and Shutting Early Due to Smoke-Related Poor Air Quality

Air Quality in NJ is not good. Stay indoors

NJ Schools Closing Early

Due to the bad air quality brought on by smoke from the Quebec wildfire, several school districts in New Jersey are canceling after-school and outdoor programs, while others are closing early.

Officials are recommending residents to stay indoors because smoke is still obscuring the area and more smoke is expected to arrive Wednesday afternoon. This is because the area has AQI levels over 151, which are deemed harmful.

The following schools have either announced an early dismissal or restricted pupils' access to outside activities:

Clifton: Postponed after-school events and equipped classrooms with air purifiers.
Dover: Outdoor events are postponed
High points include the powderpuff football game and early dismissal from high school.
Mount Olive: An early release
After-school activities are canceled in New Milford.
Early dismissal from Prospect Park at 12:45 p.m. cancellation of Boys and Girls Club.
Early dismissal and after-school activities are cancelled, Wayne.
Check with your School District or Sports Programs if events have been canceled.
