Tammy Murphy Tested Positive for Covid-19
Tammy Murphy, the first lady of New Jersey, has tested positive for COVID-19, according to Gov. Phil Murphy's office.
The news came after a quick antigen test and the family's return from an eight-day holiday in Costa Rica on Thursday.
She has no symptoms. According to the announcement, Gov. Murphy and the rest of his family have tested negative.
According to a statement from the governor's office, the governor and his wife, who are both vaccinated and boosted, tested themselves after a recent known, non-family interaction with someone who was in their home.
According to the notification, the governor is not needed to quarantine due to his vaccination status, as directed by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. However, the governor's scheduled COVID-19 briefing on Monday will be streamed live online in a virtual format.
New Jersey has been recording daily records for new COVID-19 infections since last week, with 29,740 cases reported on Saturday, fueled by the spreading omicron strain and the associated rise in demand for tests.
Gov. Murphy called the recent rise in New Jersey cases as a "omicron tsunami" during a tour of a federally sponsored COVID-19 testing facility in East Orange on Friday.
