A Woman from Middletown, NJ has been Charged with Murder in the Shooting Death of her Husband

A Middletown woman has been charged in the fatal shooting of her husband, which police say took place at the couple's home Monday morning.

Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey said that a Middletown lady has been arrested and accused in the tragic shooting murder of her husband, which occurred at the couple's home on Monday morning.

On Dec. 13, at 10:13 a.m., Middletown police were dispatched to a home on Borden Road for a gunshot. Michele Linzalone, 73, had called 911 to report her husband, Rocky V. Linzalone, 74, had been shot accidentally.

The woman took officers to a second-floor bedroom when they arrived. The husband was found with a gunshot wound to the head upon admission. Middletown Township EMS and paramedics were dispatched. Despite medical efforts, the guy was pronounced dead at his residence.

Middletown police called the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, which promptly initiated a joint investigation into the event. As a result of the inquiry, authorities have found that the shooting was not caused by an unintentional gunshot.

Linzalone was charged with first-degree murder and second-degree unlawfully possessing a weapon. She was transferred to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold, where she will be held until her initial court appearance on Tuesday.

The county prosecutor refused to say what type of gun was used since it was evidence in the case.

Linzalone is being held in the Monmouth County jail and was arraigned at a virtual hearing at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a county prosecutor's spokesperson. On Friday, she will most likely face a detention hearing.

When criminal accusations are legally and publicly announced in front of the individual accused of committing the crime, this is known as an arraignment. The accused is likely to enter a plea in response.

The judge will decide whether Linzalone will be kept in jail or released with or without bail at the detention hearing on Friday.

Linzalone faces a maximum sentence of life in jail if convicted of murder.
