Levi Caverly Dies in Sand Collapse in Toms River, Teen Sister Rescued

Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at approximately 4:09 PM, multiple police and EMS units were dispatched to the beach entrance near Seaview Road on the barrier island for reports of two teens trapped in the sand. The family was visiting from out of town and spent the afternoon at the beach. They teens were reportedly digging a large hole when it collapsed and trapped both of them. Emergency crews from neighboring towns also responded to the scene to assist in rescue efforts. The 17 year old female victim was rescued and treated at the scene, but her brother Levi Caverly, 18 of Union Maine, tragically died in the collapse.

State Police Seeking Public’s Assistance with Identifying Human Remains

The New Jersey State Police and the New Jersey Transit Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying the body of a woman that was fatally struck by a train in Monmouth County in 2008. On June 15, 2008, the victim was struck by a New Jersey Transit train at the Fisk Avenue Crossing in Brielle, N.J. The victim was described as a white female, approximately 18-30 years old, 5’4” tall, approximately 123 lbs with hazel eyes and brown hair. Below is a facial reconstruction sketch created by a detective from the New Jersey State Police Forensic Imaging Unit. A woman was taken to the hospital after being mauled by a black bear while checking her mail outside her New Jersey home.

After being mauled by a black bear while walking to check her mailbox near her house, a New Jersey woman was brought to the hospital with wounds to her right arm and buttock. The 34-year-old lady was walking down Gorney Road in Lafayette Township at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday when she was attacked, according to police. The woman, who has not been recognized, observed two to three bears and was 'engaged in a physical confrontation with one of them,' according to officials.
